Do steroid injections to the peripheral nerve increase perineural fibrosis? An animal experimental study

نویسندگان

چکیده

Background/Aim: Perineural fibrosis may be seen in some surgeries after unsuccessful transforaminal injections. This animal experiment aims to investigate the effect of steroids and/or local anesthetic substances used epidural/transforaminal injections on fibrosis. Methods: A total 14 male Wistar-Albino rats were separated into two groups 7. After intraperitoneal anesthesia, right and left sciatic nerves explored all groups. In group 1, appropriate dose methylprednisolone acetate bupivacaine hydrochloride, 2 only was administered nerves. The identified without application any procedure secure control side All areas marked for later sampling. 3 weeks, sacrificed samples taken around nerve histopathological examination. Results: perineural (intervention side) at grade five 0 two. as side, observed 5 rats, not rats. No statistically significant difference defined with respect (P=0.128). 2, 4 one rat, rat. second group, 1 each, between intervention rate (P=0.026). Conclusions: alone determined increase risk development. addition anesthetics steroid injection reduce possibility

Measuring the Quality of Pudendal Nerve Perineural Injections.

BACKGROUND Pudendal neuropathy is a tunnel syndrome characterized by pelvic pain and may include bowel, bladder, or sexual dysfunction or a combination of these. One treatment method, pudendal nerve perineural injections (PNPIs), uses infiltration of bupivacaine and corticosteroid around the nerve to provide symptom relief. Bupivacaine also anesthetizes the skin in the receptive field of the ne...

Comparison and Evaluation of Current Animal Models for Perineural Scar Formation in Rat

Objective (s): Scar formation in injured peripheral nerve bed causes several consequences which impede the process of nerve regeneration. Several animal models are used for scar induction in preclinical studies which target prevention and/or suppression of perineural scar. This study evaluates the translational capacity of four of physical injury models to induce scar formation aro...

Peripheral nerve blocks, steroid injections and their niche in headache medicine.

Peripheral nerve blocks (PNBs) have long been employed in the treatment of various primary and secondary headache disorders (1), are increasingly used in general neurological practice (2) and may be utilized by up to 69% of practitioners with expertise in the treatment of headache disorders (3). The mechanism for PNBs in the treatment of headache disorders is not known. Clearly, the treatment e...

Homeopathic treatment for peripheral nerve regeneration: an experimental study in a rat sciatic nerve transection model.

AIM Effects of homeopathic treatment with Hypericum perforatum (Hypericum) on peripheral nerve regeneration was studied using a rat sciatic nerve transection model. METHODS Fifty-four male healthy White Wistar rats were divided into three experimental groups (n = 18), randomly: Sham-operation (Sham), control: silicon tube (Sil) and treatment: silicon tube + Hypericum (Sil/Hypericum). In the S...
